IRU All India High-Level Group - Taking India’s sustainable mobility mission forward

Go Metro tool hopes to spur sustainable mobility solutions in South Africa

Public transport data for Cape Town has recently been made freely available in electronic form for use by developers and programmers by GoMetro. The availability of this type of data should help and inspire the software development community to come up with innovative solutions like apps or platforms that would help improve mobility in Cape Town and other South African cities.

BUS2BUS – political congress, exhibition, marketplace and Future Forum – maps opportunities for the bus and coach industry

Supported by IRU – the global road transport organisation – and with backing from conceptual sponsor, German Bus and Coach Operators Association (bdo), the BUS2BUS congress, Future Forum and exhibition takes place on 25-26 April 2017 and is organised by Messe Berlin. In addition to being present at the trade fair, IRU will run two workshops at the Future Forum, focused on long distance coaches and coach tourism.

By taking the bus Americans could save $140bn

As part of the #TheWay2Go campaign, CheckMyBus, an international search engine for bus travel, published a report which estimates that Americans spend 9 billion hours stuck in traffic yearly. By leaving their cars at home and using buses, American commuters can get rid of traffic and save 5 billion hours collectively.

BRT cuts congestion in Tanzania

20 February 2017

The recently inaugurated Bus Rapid Transit in Tanzania’s largest city, Dar es Salaam, already shows great results in terms of improving traffic flow in the city. Travellers used to spend 3 - 5 hours in the traditional crowded ‘daladalas’ – small buses owned by individuals or small companies. They can now reach their destination in 45 minutes.

Electric bus fleets for Belgian cities

17 February 2017

The cities of Namur and Charleroi in Belgium have together ordered 90 Volvo 7900 Electric Hybrid buses as well as 12 charging stations. Delivery and installation of 55 buses in Charleroi and 35 in Namur are planned for this autumn.

Without smart moves urban transport will not achieve climate ambitions, ITF report warns

According to the recently released ITF Transport Outlook 2017, car use in cities is set to double by 2050 as emerging economies meet mobility demand. Better vehicle and fuel technology will not be enough to achieve a reduction of CO2 emissions in cities. Changes in the mobility behaviours need to occur in order to make a difference.

Launch of European Collaborative project to deliver zero emission fuel cell buses across Europe

27 January 2017

Köln, Germany was this week the setting for the formal launch of a €125M collaborative project set to deploy 144 hydrogen fuel cell buses (JIVE project) and seven large hydrogen refuelling stations (MEHRLIN project) across Europe.
