Uganda presents solar-powered bus

The recently developed solar bus, manufactured by Uganda’s Kiira Motors, has two batteries and one of them can be charged by the solar panels placed on the roof of the vehicle. Kayoola, the prototype electric bus, was presented in Kampala and is described by its makers as being Africa’s first solar bus. Due to limitations in terms of energy autonomy, the vehicle is intended only for intracity use.


Kiira Motors hopes to attract partners in order to start the mass production of the bus and generate employment in the country. The company also hopes that by 2039 all the parts and the vehicle assembly will be done in Uganda.
