New Electric buses in Gothenburg, Sweden
The city of Gothenburg has launched its first bus route fully powered by renewable energy.
The new bus route that opened on 15 June will be managed by three fully electric buses and seven hybrid buses. The silent and emission-free buses are equipped with battery packs which ensure a quick recharge at the terminal stops, reducing energy consumption by 80 percent when compared to diesel buses. Additionally the buses are equipped with recharging points and wi-fi for passengers as well as low entry access and flat floor.
The bus route was established through ElectriCity, a collaboration between research, industry, and society that develops and tests new collective transport means of the future. It is hoped that the modern bus route will inspire other innovative transport solutions in the region.
