Majority of Sweden´s buses now run on renewable fuels

 

According to the statistics of the Swedish Public Transportation Association, two thirds of the buses used in public transportation in Sweden now run on renewable fuels. The use of renewables has increased from six percent to 58% between 2006 and 2014.  In 2014 renewable fuels accounted for 12.1% of the total fuel consumption of the Swedish transport sector.

 

This year, renewable fuels accounted for 67% of the fuel consumption in the sector. Stockholm County was the biggest consumer of biofuels with 85.7% of their public transport fuel consumption being renewable fuels.  The most popular option for renewable fuel was Biodiesel, closely followed by biogas and ED95 ethanol.
