Lucky bus riders to receive 130 new greener buses and technology

24 April 2013 - The bus company is splashing out on a string of new vehicles, including a range of environmentally-friendly hybrid vehicles, in its biggest investment outlay for years. A new control room, the largest facility of its kind in the UK, will help monitor services and traffic conditions, to ensure that buses are running as safely and efficiently as possible.

Meanwhile, bus passengers will soon be able to benefit from a new Smartcard ticketing system that makes it easy to pay for bus travel, with a new mobile phone app to be unveiled in the second half of 2013, giving customers valuable real time information and help in planning journeys.

New state of the art technology to combat vandals is also in the pipeline, providing hi-tech CCTV equipment triggered by motion detection which captures the faces of culprits.

The company, which is the largest single private employer in Birmingham, is also aiming to get more women and young people behind the wheel, after recruiting 650 new drivers throughout 2012.
