Go Metro tool hopes to spur sustainable mobility solutions in South Africa

Public transport data for Cape Town has recently been made freely available in electronic form for use by developers and programmers by GoMetro. The availability of this type of data should help and inspire the software development community to come up with innovative solutions like apps or platforms that would help improve mobility in Cape Town and other South African cities.

The GoMetro data contains information for the MyCiti Bus Rapid Transit, municipal bus services, Metrorail, and all minibus-taxis in Cape Town. All routes, trips, stop locations and stop times are readily available to build new applications while bearing in mind that multimodal journeys can be created by combining all public transport options. Datasets for the over 200 local municipalities in South Africa are also in the pipeline.

The quality of public transport access can also be assessed with the help of the GoMetro Accessibillty Score Tool which can be used through GoMetro.
