Focus on urban mobility for emerging and developing economies

IRU initiatives to improve the public mobility chain in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), India and East Africa have been highlighted at debates in Brussels on urban mobility for emerging and developing economies.

With emphasis on the objectives of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, the Paris Climate Change Agreement, and the New Urban Agenda, the event is part of the strategic IRU commitment to advance collective passenger transport across the globe. The goal is to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable, in particular by promoting the use of buses, coaches and taxis, as the most dynamic part of the door-to-door public mobility chain.

Organised by IRU, MobiliseYourCity (MYC) and Deutsche Gesellschaft for Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the debate is one of a series entitled “Capacity”4Change”. It aims to enrich dialogue on policy, investment and professionalisation of the passenger transport service industry, with the recent discussions revealing common ground for a potential IRU/MYC future collaboration.
