Audio Visual information: reducing barriers to bus travel

 

Audio-visual information on buses are an optimal solution to reducing barriers to travel: as information is key to any journey, providing sufficient information such as times of travel, frequency of service, location of stops, may encourage people to use public transport.

 

With smart ticketing initiatives and technology falling in price and new bus management systems based on GPS with real time information, and audio-visual element, transport operators could make bus travel a more enjoyable experience, by removing the stress for passengers.  By amending the regulations, governments can create a level playing field that will benefit all passengers, and not just a minority.

 

As bus travel is vital to the economy and should have a major role in any sustainable transport plan of the future, transport policies should look at making buses more accessible and user friendly in order to increase their use, as advocated by the Smart Move campaign.
