European Parliament seeking long distance coach operators for film prize trial

The European Parliament is looking for long distance coach operators interested in promoting their services while showcasing the film entrant of this year’s LUX Film Prize.

24 February 2014 - Every year since 2007, the European Parliament hands out a prize called the LUX Film Prize consisting of the best European films of the year selected by a panel of film professionals. The original version of the film is translated into all 24 official languages of the European Union. The aim of the prize is to let as many people as possible share these touching and emotional stories told on screen regardless of which language they understand. Through the LUX Prize, the European Parliament supports cultural diversity and helps the distribution of the film by literally crossing borders.

This year, the LUX Prize is planning to run a pilot project entitled The LUX Coach Tour. This project will run between March-April 2014. The European Parliament is looking for coaches equipped with at least two screens to be able to screen on-board one of the LUX Prize films – for example, last year’s winner, the Belgian love story “The Broken Circle Breakdown”.

At this stage, the European Parliament cannot commit to any firm engagement until it knows at what level coach operators are interested in participating. Nevertheless, the intention is to work on a basis that would entail absolutely no cost to operators, except a good will to commit to screening the chosen LUX film on-board one or some long distance coaches with cross-border routes. The routes can be occasional tourist journeys or regular services.
