Commonwealth of Independent States to prioritise passenger mobility

IRU’s Smart Move working group in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region pushes forward with its work to promote advanced industry regulation, and access to safe, clean and green passenger transport.

Initiated by the Smart Move working group in the CIS region, the focus at the 74th CIS Economic Council, chaired by Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Igor Shuvalov, was on the impact of the CIS passenger transport Convention and its future direction.

On the recommendation of Smart Move, members of the CIS Economic Council have agreed to revise the Convention with regard to fleet technical requirements and safety, based on industry best practices and global trends.

The Smart Move group also advocated the monitoring of current barriers to international passenger road transport, which gained support from participants at the event, who also called for the CIS governments to provide assistance in the implementation of this project.

The CIS Smart Move working group comprises industry experts from nine CIS countries. It was established in 2014 following the decision of the CIS Council on Road Transport of the Coordination Transport Committee. The IRU Permanent Delegation to Eurasia functions as the Secretariat of the CIS Smart Move working group.
