Bus fleet in Rennes to go fully electric by 2020

The city of Rennes in France is planning to have a fully-electric bus fleet by 2020.

A call for tender was launched seeking proposals for both standard and articulated buses from manufacturers. The use of energy of the 100% electric buses must not have any impact on the distance the vehicles need to cover. Appropriate measures for storing electricity adapted to Rennes' transportation network, specifications for maintenance of vehicles and a concept for a business plan should also be included in the proposal.

After a first test on several existing lines, the city envisages issuing another tender in order to have all buses replaced with electric models.
