Benefits of bus travel showcased in the UK during the ‘Catch the Bus Week’

Catch the Bus Week organised by Greener Journeys from 3 to 9 July 2017 will celebrate the bus for the fifth time this year. A wide range of entertaining activities designed to raise awareness of the numerous benefits of travelling by bus will take place during one week across the UK.

According to a Greener Journeys report, a 10% improvement in bus service connectivity would lead to a 3.6% reduction in social deprivation. This would mean almost 10,000 more people in work in the poorest neighbourhoods in England. Another report from 2016, A Green Bus for Every Journey, shows that the introduction of Low Carbon Emission Buses in the UK is already saving 55,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year and delivering £8 million in health and environmental benefits.

However, despite their significant contribution to the economy, to the environment, and to the society, buses are too easily overlooked. Catch the Bus Week aims to open people’s eyes to all these advantages of bus travel and ultimately change mobility behaviours in the long term.
