Long-distance bus transport thrives in Germany

After the liberalisation of long-distances buses in 2013 the amount of passengers almost doubled in 2014. In numbers, the growth means that from 8, 2 million passengers in 2013, the preliminary number for 2014 is 16 million passengers. The total market share is expected to grow from 5, 9% to 11%.

Out of the 16 million passengers 12 million (growth of 80%) were domestic and 4 million were cross-border travellers (growth of 160%).  The average trip for a traveller was 330km or more and the utilisation rate of the buses was at 51%.
