IRU, ASRTU (the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings) and Busworld International are joining forces to organise the Busworld India 2016 congress in Bangalore, “Bus and coach – a smart transportation system for India”, putting a spotlight on connectivity, safety, coach tourism and electromobility.

English report reveals that improvement in bus services would lead to growth in jobs

 

The report, The Value of the Bus to Society, commissioned by Greener Journeys shows that a 10% improvement in bus services would lead to almost 10,000 more people in work in the poorest neighbourhoods in England.

European Commission supports the purchase of environmentally friendly buses and related infrastructure in Portugal

 

The European Commission has found Portuguese plans to support the purchase of low-emission buses for public infrastructure in urban areas to be in line with EU state aid rules. The measure contributes to reducing CO2 emissions while limiting distortions of competition in the Single Market.

Green buses to run in Cape Town next year

 

In its effort to reduce carbon emissions, the City of Cape Town has announced the roll out of 10 electric buses for the MyCiTi service in 2017. The tender, valued at R126 million was awarded to BYD, a Chinese electric car and rechargeable battery manufacturer which has a branch in South Africa.

EU campaign promotes travel within Europe

 

According to Eurostat, in 2015 the number of nights spent in tourist accommodation establishments in the European Union is expected to have reached a new record level of around 2.8 billion nights, up by 3.2 % compared with 2014. The European Commission’s goal is to support this trend, to promote travel within Europe and competitive growth of the tourism sector in all Member States and thereby to maintain Europe's position as a leading tourism destination.

Smart Move’s objective in line with UN’s Sustainable Development Goals

 

Efficient, affordable, environmentally friendly and safe mobility for all could be achieved by significantly increasing the use of buses and coaches worldwide. This Smart Move message was passed by IRU to the thousands of people participating these days in the UN‘s Habitat III conference taking place in Quito, Ecuador.

Contactless bus travel across UK for Stagecoach users by end of 2018

 

Stagecoach will deliver contactless bus travel on all of its regional bus services across the UK by the end of 2018. Passengers will be able to pay for their travel with a contactless credit or debit card, as well as Apple Pay and Android Pay.
