New Zealand celebrates Year of the Dragon with ‘Dragon buses’

19 April 2012 – Dragons are legendary creatures in Chinese mythology and considered a symbol of power, strength and good luck. To celebrate the Year of the Dragon, Auckland Transport, together with New Zealand Bus, have produced two ‘dragon buses’, for the City LINK bus route in central Auckland,  to encourage bus use by members of the Chinese community.

The dragon branded buses, painted in traditional red and gold colours, were unveiled in March and will run throughout 2012.

The aim is to encourage more of the Chinese community – the largest of the Asian communities in Auckland with some 97,500 people, to use public transport. The LINK brochure has been translated into Chinese, to make travel planning easier.
